Slovenia – Lake Bohinj, Lake Bled and Kranjska Gora

Kremsnita

Lake Bohinj is absolutely stunning. I stayed in the Hotel Jezero, which is right on the Lakeside.

One thing I discovered about Slovenia is that the people have very little concept of a “Portion for One” especially when it comes to cakes!

This is Lake Bohinj on my morning walk. I don’t think I have ever seen such beautiful, clear reflections of mountains in a lake as I did on that morning.

I enjoyed one of the best Apfel Strudel that I have eaten, with some very generous portions. It was delicious and did not leave much room for dinner.

Close by is the more well-known landscape of Lake Bled, with its famous island and fairy-tale castle.

Lake Bled is also home to the gorgeous Kremsnita, which is a custard and cream slice on a pastry base. It was invented in one of the local hotels and is mouth-wateringly delicious. Another huge portion!

I also went to Kranska Gora in the North West Corner of Slovenia. This has a spectacular mountain landscape, with huge jagged peaks. This is a very popular ski area.

I found a lovely chocolate shop and treated myself to a hot chocolate. I was quite surprised to receive a glass of hot milk and a solid block of chocolate on a stick. At first I did try to eat the chocolate as I was not sure what to do with it. I could not and then realised that I was supposed to dip it in the hot milk and let it melt. So delicious.

I loved Slovenia, especially the cakes and the absolutely stunning scenery. I went in the Winter and it is definitely worth a Summer trip
