Train Trip along the Rhine Gorge
We took a train trip on the Rhaetian Railway along the spectacular Rhine Gorge from Ilanz to to Reichenau- Tamins.
WOW! What a trip. The scenery is absolutely spectacular and the Gorge is quite rightly known as The Swiss Grand Canyon.
It was raining quite heavily on the way down the Gorge, but that did not spoil the trip. In fact, it added to the atmosphere as you could see the mist over the Rhine River.
When we got to Tamins, we decided to go back up to the next stop, which is Versam-Safien and hike back along the Gorge trail to Valendas-Sagogn, with a view to catching the train back up to Ilanz from there.
By the time the train stopped in Versam, the rain had stopped and the sun had come out. Perfect for a hike!
We walked along the valley with plenty of stops for photographs.
By the time we got to Valendas, the sun was shining brightly.
We caught the very punctual train back to Ilanz and then went to find an ice-cream shop.
In Ilanz, we had probably the largest bowl of ice-cream each that we have ever had.
Back to the Spa to rest our legs in the super spa, with water jets that aim directly at aching muscles.
