Review of Hotel Signina, LAAX, Graubunden, Switzerland
Signina Hotel and Wellness Spa
I have stayed in this hotel twice, once in the Winter Season, and once in early July, which was just outside of the main Summer Season.
I stayed with my husband and we loved it.
The hotel is part of the Rocks Resort, which is conveniently located next to the main ski lifts in LAAX. As well as the Signina Hotel, there are several modern self-catering apartments, as well as other restaurants, outdoor clothing shops and even a Lidl supermarket for all of your groceries.
On the first occasion we stayed in the Signina Hotel, we had a bed and breakfast package and the second time, we purchased a half-board package, which worked out to be much better value for money for us.
The food is all freshly cooked on site and the hotel uses fresh, local-sourced organic produce where possible. Breakfast is served in the Camino Restaurant and offers a huge selection of cereals, fruits, pastries and cooked food. It is all self-service, so you can fill your plate with as much food as you can eat.
On the first trip, we ate in the dining room a couple of times and the food was exquisite. There was a large choice on the A La Carte Menu. One night I had a parsnip soup, followed by a salmon pasta penne and white, swiss chocolate mousse. The flavours were mouth-wateringly delicious.
The Signina Hotel offers large, spacious rooms with en-suite bathroom, which includes both bath and shower. We were fortunate in having a South facing room, so we were looking straight at the mountains. This was most awesome when we awoke on the first morning to find that it had snowed overnight and we were greeted with a postcard-perfect Winter Wonderland.
We sat on the balcony in our fluffy dressing gowns, feeling the first goosebumps on our skin from the freezing cold air of a snowy morning.
On the second visit, the hotel was quiet and we were upgraded to a suite, which gave us a sitting area and a second balcony.
As we were staying in the hotel itself, we had unlimited use of the spa and wellness area. The water in the pools was deliciously warm, which was perfect after a day’s walking. The facilities are clean and modern, with complimentary fresh fruit and juice available at the poolside. Robes, slippers and towels are all provided.
The pool area is designed with a number of fantastic water jets, which are targeted to specific muscles on your body, so that, by the time you have done a complete circuit, every tired and aching muscle in your body have been given a rejuvenating massage.
Downstairs is the sauna area, which has a Finnish Sauna, a Bio Sauna and a Steam Bath as well as hot and cold plunge pools. These are pure bliss for relaxation.
The members of staff were all multilingual and incredibly helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, even in the Winter season, when the hotel was full and everything was running at a rapid pace.
The hotel provides a perfect base for exploring this beautiful part of Switzerland. There are extensive ski runs and a world famous snow park for skiers and snowboarders. For others, like us, who are walkers, there are miles of hiking trails, where the snow has been compacted for easy walking. As a walker, you can use all of the ski lifts, although some are easier to get off if you have skis on your feet.
As walkers, the only disappointment was that we could not go right to the top of the Vorab Glacier. The reason being that it is only accessed by a simple Button Lift, which means you have to have skis or a snowboard on your feet as you are dragged to the top.
Whilst we were there, we had a look around the self-catering apartments and were very impressed.
They are fully furnished and modern, sleeping between four and eight people. They have everything that you could require for your stay. You can use the spa facilities in the Signina Hotel but you pay separately for those.
We loved LAAX and having experienced both a Winter and Summer holiday there, we would go again and we would stay in the Signina Hotel again.
