Great Walk with Walking for Health North Warwickshire Group
I went for a gorgeous walk this afternoon with the North Warwickshire Group of Walking for Health.
There are over 400 groups nationally and provide short, local, free walks for people of all ages and fitness levels to take part in.
The walks are led by experienced walkers who have a good knowledge of a local area and range from 30 minutes to a couple of hours, which gives walks of 1-4 miles.
I think it is a brilliant idea and I shall be doing more of these.
It has become very relevant to me now to keep my heart in good working order as my dad has just had a quadruple heart bypass, brought on by a very stressful lifestyle.
North Warwickshire Group Walk
The North Warwickshire Group met at Ridge Lane on the outskirts of Atherstone, Warwickshire. This is only 12 miles away from where I live, so it was only a short drive.
We walked down through the woods and across part of the golf course on the public footpaths and back up through the fields to the village.
The walk was 4.1 miles and took just under two hours.
There was quite a steep slope at the end, so I was puffing a bit by the time I got to the top.
I was very glad to get back to the community hall for a large mug of tea and several chocolate chip cookies.
That is one of the things I like about the Endomondo sports tracker – it tells me how many calories I have walked off, which gives me a clear indication of how many biscuits I can have!
It is a friendly group and I really enjoyed going somewhere I have not been before and meeting new people. I am enjoying walking the experience of walking with groups’
Looking forward to the next one.
